FAQs

What’s the difference between tags and custom fields?

In LeadsWithDemos, both tags and custom fields help you organize and segment your subscribers, but they serve different purposes:

  • Tags: Tags are simple labels you assign to subscribers to quickly categorize, organize, and filter them based on actions, interests, or journey stages (e.g., “Engaged Subscriber”, “Requested Recipe”, “Gluten-Free”). Tags are great for broad segmentation and automation in workflows, like automatically assigning/removing tags as subscribers move through automated journeys.
  • Custom Fields: Custom fields allow you to collect and store specific, structured data about each subscriber. These can represent any custom information you want to track, such as dietary preference, skill level, favorite cuisines, or other attributes relevant to your business or workflows. You can add multiple types of custom fields and map them to form inputs, enabling detailed segmentation and more personalized communications.

In summary:

Use tags for quick, broad categorizations and automation triggers.
Use custom fields to capture, store, and segment by specific data unique to your subscribers.

Which profile fields are included by default?

The default profile fields included in LeadsWithDemos for each subscriber are:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Country
  • Registered Date
  • Last Contacted
  • Email Domain
  • Email Validity State
  • Mailable Status (subscribed/unsubscribed)
  • Additional activity and engagement stats (such as recent activity, emails received, engagement metrics, etc.)

You can also view and edit these fields directly in the subscriber’s profile or when adding/editing a lead. Custom fields can be added if you need more specific data points beyond these defaults.

How do progressive answers get into the profile?

Progressive answers get into the subscriber profile in LeadsWithDemos through the use of “Advanced Progressive Fields” in your popups and forms. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Progressive Data Collection: Instead of gathering all information at once, LeadsWithDemos allows you to ask different questions over multiple interactions. For example, a subscriber might initially provide only their email and first name; on a subsequent visit or subsequent form submission, the popup can automatically ask for their dietary preference, skill level, or cuisine interests.
  2. Field Mapping: Each question (form field) you add to a popup or form is mapped to a corresponding profile “custom field” in your LeadsWithDemos subscriber database. When a subscriber answers a progressive question, their response is stored in their profile under that custom field.
  3. Automatic Profile Update: As subscribers interact with different popups/forms and answer new questions over time, those answers are merged into their existing profile. The platform provides advanced options, such as only showing certain questions if specific previous fields have been completed, and choosing whether to overwrite previous answers or always display up-to-date questions.
  4. Segmentation and Personalization: The progressively gathered data is then available for segmentation and future email personalization, so every new piece of information a subscriber provides is automatically attributed to their profile for use in campaigns and automations.

This process ensures your subscriber’s profiles become richer over time, with minimal friction, leading to highly relevant communications and smarter segmentation.

Can I import my current list and map fields?

Yes, you can import your current subscriber list into LeadsWithDemos and map the fields during the import process. Here’s how it works:

  • You can upload your leads as a CSV, XLS, or XLSX file. After uploading, you’ll be presented with a mapping table that allows you to match each column in your file to the corresponding LeadsWithDemos profile or custom field.
  • If your file contains fields that are not present in your LeadsWithDemos site, you can create new custom fields from the “Map Your Leads” window or from Leads > Settings > Custom Fields.
  • You can choose to overwrite existing subscriber data if a matching email is found.

This ensures that all your subscriber information—standard and custom—is accurately integrated and mapped for efficient management.

Can I target content or emails by profile attributes?

Yes, you can target content or emails by profile attributes in LeadsWithDemos. Here’s how it works:

  1. Segmentation by Profile Attributes: LeadsWithDemos provides powerful filtering and segmentation tools that allow you to segment your subscribers using both default fields (like first name, country, mailable status, last activity) and any custom fields you create (such as dietary preference, source, or engagement level). You can also segment by tags assigned to subscribers based on actions or interests, email engagement, website or form interactions, and more.
  2. Audience Lists: After applying your desired filters, you can save that segmented group as an Audience List. This list dynamically updates as subscriber data changes, ensuring ongoing relevance for targeted campaigns.
  3. Targeted Emails: When creating an email campaign or automated journey, you can select a saved audience list or create one from scratch using segment filters. Your emails and automations will then target only those subscribers who match your selected profile attributes. You can also use personalization tokens in your email content, which pull dynamic data from any profile or custom field, addressing subscribers by name or tailoring content to their interests.
  4. Automated Journeys and Tag-Based Logic: Automated journeys in LeadsWithDemos can assign or remove tags, update fields, and trigger additional automations or messages as subscribers’ profiles change, ensuring on-the-fly targeting as new data is captured.

Is this GDPR-friendly?

Yes, LeadsWithDemos is designed to be GDPR-friendly, but it’s up to you as the user to implement key compliance measures. Here are the ways LeadsWithDemos supports GDPR compliance:

  • Consent Fields: You are encouraged to include a consent field (checkbox) in your popups or forms so subscribers explicitly agree to the collection and use of their data. This can be tailored to ensure you meet regulatory consent requirements for your region.
  • Unsubscribe Functions: Every automated journey email sent via LeadsWithDemos must include an unsubscribe tag in the email footer. This ensures all recipients can easily opt out, which is a GDPR requirement for data subject rights and anti-spam compliance. If the unsubscribe tag is missing, the platform will not allow you to send automated emails.
  • Data Deletion: Users can permanently delete their entire account and all associated data, giving you full control and the ability to respond to “right to be forgotten” requests.

Remember, while LeadsWithDemos offers GDPR-supportive features, full compliance ultimately depends on how you configure your forms, collect consent, and manage your mailing lists and data requests.

Does this work without a WordPress plugin?

Yes, LeadsWithDemos works without requiring a WordPress plugin. You can use it on any type of website by simply embedding code or adding a tracking script:

  • Popups & Forms: Add LeadsWithDemos popups and forms to any website by placing the provided tracking script before the closing tag on each page where you want the forms or popups to appear. This is not limited to WordPress—you can use it on Shopify, Webflow, static HTML sites, Squarespace, and more.
  • Embedded Forms & Chat: For inline forms or embedded AI assistants, copy the embed code (usually an HTML iframe) from LeadsWithDemos and paste it directly into the HTML of your desired web page.
  • Landing Pages: LeadsWithDemos also allows you to build standalone landing pages within its platform, all without WordPress dependencies.

You do NOT need a WordPress plugin; the system is designed to be CMS-agnostic via scripts and embed codes.

Is this included on the Free plan?

Yes, progressive fields and simple tags are included from day one; plans scale by usage and add-ons.
