Automated Journey Canvas

Once you click the “Create an automated journey” button in your LeadsWithDemos site, you are taken to the Automated Journey Canvas. This is your workspace for visually designing the flow of your automated email nurturing sequence. When you first open the canvas to create a new journey, you will see the initial journey layout, starting with a Trigger enrollment for leads step.

Trigger Enrollment for Leads Step

The “Trigger enrollment for leads” step is the starting point of every automated journey in your LeadsWithDemos site. It allows you to define the specific criteria that must be met for a subscriber to enter your automated workflow. This ensures your journeys remain targeted and relevant, helping you send the right emails to the right people at the right time. Within this step, you will see two tabs: the Enrollment tab, and the Unenrollment tab.

Enrollment Tab

The Enrollment tab allows you to set the rules for when and how subscribers are added to your automated journey. You can define which audience lists or segments to target, set specific enrollment conditions, and decide if subscribers can join the journey more than once. Within this step, you can:

Select audience list

Use the dropdown to choose the specific audience list that subscribers must be part of to enter the journey.

Set enrollment conditions

This dropdown helps you refine your targeting by selecting conditions such as “is member of list” or “is not member of list.” These options allow you to enroll only subscribers who either belong to or do not belong to the chosen audience list.

Allow leads to join more than once

Enable this option if you want subscribers to be able to re-enter the journey even after having completed it previously. This is particularly useful for recurring email campaigns or scenarios where repeat engagement is desired.

Unenrollment Tab

The Unenrollment tab in the “Trigger enrollment for leads” step allows you to set clear rules for when subscribers should be automatically removed from an automated journey. You can choose from options like:

No longer meet the enrollment criteria

Subscribers will exit the journey if they stop matching the original segment or audience list you set in the Enrollment tab.

Join a suppression list

Subscribers will be unenrolled if they are added to, or join, a specified suppression list. If enabled, you will be able to select the audience suppression list from the dropdown menu. This helps ensure compliance and prevents further communications when necessary.

Once you have configured the trigger settings, you can choose to save or discard the step by clicking either the Save or Cancel button, just as you would with other LeadsWithDemos automated journey steps. After setting the trigger, you can continue building your LeadsWithDemos automated journey by adding additional steps. To add a new step, simply click the plus (+) icon that appears after your current journey block.

This opens the “Add Step” menu, where you can choose from a range of actions or journey steps to define how subscribers progress through your automated journey.

Other Canvas Functionalities

Beyond core automation steps and their management, the LeadsWithDemos journey builder canvas provides a comprehensive set of features to enhance workflow efficiency, support team collaboration, and ensure a smooth experience as you build and optimize automated journeys.

Activities (Modification History)

The Activities feature gives you a clear, chronological view of all changes made to your automated journey. Also known as Modification History, this tool helps you keep track of who made updates, what was changed, and when each modification occurred, providing transparency and control as you build and refine your workflows.

How It Works
  • Click the Activities button at the top of your journey canvas to open the modification history panel.
  • The panel displays a timeline of all actions performed on your automated journey, such as creating, deleting, or editing steps, updating settings, or renaming the workflow.
  • Each entry shows the type of activity, the user who initiated the change (if applicable), and the date and time it occurred.
  • The list updates in real-time, ensuring you always have the most current record of adjustments.

Naming Your Automated Journey

The Naming Your Automated Journey feature in your LeadsWithDemos site allows you to easily assign a clear, descriptive name to each of your automated workflows. Naming your journey keeps your workspace organized, especially as you build and manage multiple journeys for different email campaigns, audiences, or goals.

How It Works
  • At the top of the journey builder, you’ll see the current name of your workflow (e.g., “Unnamed Journey”) next to a pencil (edit) icon.
  • Click the pencil icon to open the journey name field.
  • Type your desired name for the journey—a name that reflects its purpose, audience, or campaign (for example, “Welcome Sequence – Recipe Subscribers” or “Freebie Download Nurture”).
  • Click the green checkmark to save, or the red X to cancel and keep the previous name.

Undo, Redo, and Save

The Undo, Redo, and Save controls make it easy to confidently build and adjust your automated journey. These tools help you quickly reverse mistakes, revisit previous edits, and securely store your progress as you design or update your workflow.

How It Works
  • Undo:
Click the Undo icon to instantly reverse your most recent change, whether that’s adding, editing, or deleting a step in your journey. This allows you to recover from accidental actions or explore different configurations without worry.
  • Redo:
Click the Redo icon to reinstate a change you’ve undone. If you use Undo but later decide you actually want to keep that action, Redo lets you quickly bring it back.
  • Save:
Click the Save icon to store all modifications made to your journey. This ensures that your updates are preserved and your workflow is always up to date. Saving frequently prevents loss of work and lets you keep an organized record of your progress.

Zoom in, Zoom Out and Reset

The Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Reset controls allow you to easily adjust your view of the automated journey canvas. These features help you navigate, review, and design complex workflows with greater ease and precision.

How It Works
  • Zoom In:
Click the plus (+) button to zoom in, making each step block larger and easier to view in detail. This is especially helpful for examining intricate workflows or editing individual journey steps.
  • Zoom Out:
Click the minus (–) button to zoom out, so you can see more of your journey at once. This provides a broader overview; ideal for reviewing how multiple steps connect or for working with longer, multi-step automations.
  • Reset:
Click the reset (square) button to instantly return the canvas to its default zoom level and position. This feature is useful if you’ve zoomed in or out and want to quickly return to the standard workspace view.

Canvas Minimap

The Canvas Minimap provides a helpful overview of your entire automated journey, making it easy to navigate and manage complex workflows. This feature acts as a small map of your journey builder workspace, allowing you to see the complete structure of your workflow at a glance—even when working on large or multi-step automations.

How It Works
  • The minimap displays a miniature version of your workflow, located in the bottom corner of the journey canvas.
  • Your visible workspace area is highlighted on the minimap, making it easy to see which part of the journey you’re currently viewing or editing.
  • Click and drag within the minimap to quickly navigate to different sections of your journey; ideal for efficiently moving from one step to another, especially in longer workflows.

Back to automated journeys

The Back to Automated Journeys feature lets you quickly return to the Automated Journeys Details Table, where you can view and manage all of your automated workflows. This navigation control streamlines your workflow, making it simple to switch between multiple automation sequences and keep your account organized.

How It Works
  • Located at the top left corner of the journey builder interface or canvas, the “Back to automated journeys” link or button takes you out of the journey you are currently editing.
  • Clicking this control will navigate you directly to the Automated Journeys Details Table, where you can see and manage all of your existing automated journeys in your LeadsWithDemos site.
  • No changes are lost if you have already saved your latest edits.

Review and Publish

The Review and Publish feature is the final step before activating your automated journey. It gives you a structured way to double-check your workflow, manage enrollment settings, and launch your automation with confidence, ensuring every detail is just right before subscribers start moving through your sequence.

How It Works
  • Click the Review and publish button at the top of your journey builder or canvas when you are ready to finalize your automation.
  • The Review and Publish panel opens, providing a summary of your journey and alerting you to any subscribers who already meet your trigger criteria.
  • You’ll be prompted to choose how to enroll subscribers:
    • Yes, enroll existing subscribers who currently meet the enrollment criteria as soon as the journey is activated.
    • No, only enroll new subscribers who meet the criteria after publishing, starting from that point forward.
  • The panel also displays a journey description field, where you can optionally add details to clarify the purpose and setup of your workflow.
  • Once you are satisfied, click “Publish” to activate your journey. This makes your workflow live, and automation will begin for all eligible subscribers.

Automated Journey Status

The Automated Journey Status indicator lets you instantly see whether your workflow is active (ON) or inactive (OFF). This clear status display helps you stay in control of when your automations are running, ensuring that emails, tags, and other actions only occur when you’re ready for subscribers to move through your journey.

How It Works
  • The status is displayed clearly at the top of the journey builder or canvas, showing as either Workflow is ON (with a green indicator) or Workflow is OFF (with a red indicator).
  • ON means the journey is live and all eligible subscribers will automatically progress through the steps and receive messages or actions according to your setup.
  • OFF means the journey is paused. No subscribers will enter or progress through the workflow until you choose to publish or activate it.
